'Old Age Makeup' Video Essay Compares How Actors Like Brando Were Styled, Versus How They Actually Aged

Actors are transformers and for every role they become someone else, are a different age and have a story to tell. A video posted by Filminick, and edited by Dominick Nero, titled “Old Age Makeup” compares how Hollywood approximates old age versus what actors actually look like when they get old. The results are quite impressive.

The clip, set to “Married Life” from the movie “Up,” shows side-by-sides of actors when they were aged in films to how they look now or when they were older. Robert De Niro is seen at the age of 41 in the 1984 film “Once Upon a Time In America” and then shown in “Joy” at the age of 72.

At the age of 57 Maggie Smith appeared in “Hook” (1991) as an older lady with white hair. She’s compared to her role in “The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” 2015 film in which she was 81 years old.

The video goes on to compare actors such as Dick Van Dyke in “Mary Poppins” (1964) and in a recent interview he did, Michael J. Fox when he’s made to look older in “Back To the Future Part II” (1989) and Sally Field in “Forest Gump” (1994) and “My Name is Doris” (2016). Andrea Martin, James Woods, Al Pacino, Marlon Brando and many other performers get the side-by-side treatment, with many being spot-on to how they would look in the future.
