Snapchat‘s social-media dominance continues with Ingrid Michaelson’s “Hell No” music video, which demonstrates the kind of low-budget inventiveness that so often goes viral in these media-saturated times. (It also demonstrates that almost literally no one remembers to film horizontally rather than vertically, alas.) It helps that the song is something of an earworm.

Among the singer’s different looks: a comically oversized nose, panda face, pig nose, heart eyes and the ever popular rainbow barf. Michaelson, who’s been releasing albums for more than a decade, says that “Hell No” took her four weeks to film. Her hard work has paid off to the tune of 230,000 YouTube views as of this writing, just a few short days after the video was first uploaded.

More and more movies and videos are being shot in a similarly DIY manner, with Sean Baker’s “Tangerine” being among the more high-profile recent examples to take advantage of increasingly high-quality, consumer-grade equipment. Baker’s film, shot in Los Angeles with three iPhone 5s smartphones, premiered at Sundance last year and won well-deserved critical praise throughout the year.
