Nostalgic for “Friday Night Lights“? Amy Schumer has you covered.
Included in the season premiere of her acclaimed sketch series “Inside Amy Schumer” is “Football Town Nights,” a glorious parody of the Emmy-winning NBC football drama. Schumer channels Connie Britton’s wildly appealing “Mrs. Coach,” while “Inside Amy Schumer” frequenter Josh Charles returns to take the reigns of Coach Eric Taylor from Kyle Chandler (no easy task).
The result is a silly, funny and increasingly bizarre interpretation of the series, perfectly tapping into its tone and typical conflicts while raucously confronting the ugliness of football culture in the process. While Schumer and Charles could hardly replicate the irresistible chemistry between Chandler and Britton, both expertly tap into their mannerisms and dynamic. In particular, their post-game interaction features a visual gag that’s one for the ages.
