2015 Emmy Predictions: Best Actor in a Comedy Series

2015 Emmy Predictions: Best Actor Comedy Series

Many were worried before the nominations came out that Amazon didn’t have a strong enough presence to get its breakout hit “Transparent” the attention it deserves. Now that Jill Soloway’s dramedy has hauled in a hefty number of nods, the concern shifts to whether or not it can win. If it’s a favorite anywhere, it’s here. This marks the seventh Emmys nomination for Jeffrey Tambor, and his zero-for-six record should only improve his odds at taking home the trophy this year.

Of course, he’s not alone in the category when it comes to lacking wins. Matt LeBlanc is also zero for six at the Emmys, despite repeat nominations for “Friends” and “Episodes.” Don Cheadle is zero for seven, including three straight losses for “House of Lies.” William H. Macy won two Emmys in 2002 for “Door to Door,” but has never won for his role in “Shameless.” Will Forte is zero for two, but his two nods were spaced out over 15 years (Guest Actor on “30 Rock” and writing for “The Late Show with David Letterman”).

That leaves five-time Emmy winner Louis C.K. and first-time nominee Anthony Anderson. Despite all those trophies, C.K. has never won an acting award, so perhaps the TV Academy will right that wrong this year. As for Anderson, his surprise nod will likely be his prize, as his nomination was the only one “Black-ish” scored.

Below are predictions for best comedy series from both Indiewire Awards Editor Peter Knegt and TV Critic Ben Travers. Check back as they might very well change ’em up between now and September, and stay up-to-date on all the races with our predictions in all the categories here.
