This new look at the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning drama “The Handmaid’s Tale” indicates that we may be in for a grim ride when Season 2 premieres on Hulu this April — but it may be just what we need.

The dystopian drama, which debuted to much critical acclaim last year in the midst of what’s been an incredibly charged political climate, looks set to continue expanding the world of Margaret Atwood’s classic novel, set in a society where women have been stripped of all rights.

The ensemble cast, led by Elisabeth Moss as the fiercely rebellious June, also includes Madeline Brewer, Amanda Brugel, Ann Dowd, O. T. Fagbenle, Joseph Fiennes, Tattiawna Jones, Max Minghella, Yvonne Strahovski, and Samira Wiley. Moss and Dowd won Emmys for their respective roles in Season 1, with Moss also winning Best Actress in a Drama at the 2018 Golden Globes, accompanying the series’ win for Best Drama.

Details are just now starting to trickle out about what we might expect from the second season, but showrunner Bruce Miller has teased that viewers will get a glimpse of the Colonies, the outer realms of Gilead where rebellious women like Janine (Brewer) are sent to suffer.

In addition, upcoming guest stars include Marisa Tomei in an unspecified role and Cherry Jones as June’s previously unseen mother Holly. Season 2 also received an expanded episode order of 13 episodes (up from the 10 episodes of Season 1).

Check out the latest trailer below. “The Handmaid’s Tale” Season 2 premieres April 25, 2018 on Hulu.
