Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have just dropped a fierce new trailer for last year’s Indiewire Project of the Year, “Dear White People” — a film that stole the hearts of many critics and industry professionals earlier this year when it made its debut in Park City at the Sundance Film Festival.

Written and directed by newcomer Justin Simien, “Dear White People” centers on a group of African American students as they navigate campus life at their predominantly white college. Although the film weaves together multiple storylines, activist Samantha White, played by the vivacious Tessa Thompson, leads the culture war unfolding on the school’s campus.
In the trailer below, the satirical quality of the film is accentuated by the rather decadent classical soundtrack, including Beethoven’s 5th Symphony.
“Dear White People” hits theaters on October 17.
