Macaulay Culkin Doesn’t Watch ‘Home Alone’ During Christmas, Goes Out Less to Avoid Being Recognized

The actor calls his iconic role in Chris Columbus' 1990 family comedy a "curse and a blessing" these days.
Macaulay Culkin Doesn't Watch 'Home Alone' During Christmas

Macaulay Culkin just wants to be left alone during the Christmas holiday season. The 37-year-old actor revealed during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that he refuses to watch “Home Alone” during Christmas and finds it both “flattering and creepy” when people ask to watch his 1990 family comedy with him.

“I don’t really watch them all that often,” Culkin said, replying, “No, not really” when asked if he watches the holiday classic on Christmas like many fans do each year. “It’s my season….It’s Macaulay season. I try to go out less and less around that time of year.”

Culkin admitted he can no longer watch the film like many do with an endearing outlook. He said he avoids going out a lot during the Christmas season because he gets recognized more than usual and is often asked to make his character’s legendary screaming face.

“I’ve been there, done that already guys. I’m 37 now, OK mom?” Culkin said, referring to his role in the film as both a “curse and blessing.” “I can get into any restaurant I want without a reservation. But while I’m there, everyone’s starting at me and all going ‘awwww’ the whole time.”

Culkin has remained off screen for much of the last several years. His last screen role was a supporting turn in “Adam Green’s Aladdin,” and he stars in Seth Green’s upcoming directorial effort “Changeland.”
