IFC Films Acquires Richard Gere's 'Time Out of Mind'

IFC Films has acquired U.S. rights to writer-director Oren Moverman‘s “Time Out 0f Mind,” starring Richard Gere, Jena Malone, Kyra Sedgwick and Michael Kenneth Williams. The drama film tells the story of a homeless man who navigates the unforgiving streets of New York City while trying to repair his relationship with his estranged daughter.

Given the movie’s strong reviews after screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival, it was only a matter of time before a distributor picked up the drama.

“‘Time Out of Mind’ is for me 10 years in the making and is certainly one of my most personal films,” said Gere, who pulls double duty as producer of the film. “I am thrilled to be working with IFC Films. Oren and I can think of no better partner than IFC to support and embrace our film.”

Critics have singled out Gere’s nuanced performance as one of the best of his career, but any Oscar buzz surrounding the project will be delayed a year as IFC Films plans a 2015 theatrical release.
