Exclusive: Kickstarter Announces Program for 4th Annual Kickstarter Film Festival (And It’s Free!)

Kickstarter will present the 4th Annual Kickstarter Film Festival in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene Park on Friday, July 18, featuring a selection of films which raised money on the crowd funding platform. For one night only, the festival will screen a selection of documentaries, animated shorts and experiential films curated by Kickstarter. Tickets are free and no RSVPs are necessary.

The film fest is a chance to reflect that great diversity, by showing all kinds of films, and to celebrate the limitless power of creativity. It’s also a chance to give some little films a big audience — thousands of people have attended in years past and we expect an even bigger crowd this summer. There’s a huge and growing community of people who appreciate independent films, and Kickstarter is proud to be a part of that world.” said Michael McGregor, VP of Communications, Kickstarter.

The full lineup is available here. Gillian Robespierre’s “Obvious Child,” Alexandre Rockwell’s “Little Feet” Adam M. Weber and Jimmy Goldblum’s “Tomorrow We Disappear,” Tracy Droz Tragos and Andrew Droz Palermo’s “Rich Hill” are among the films that will screen as part of the festival. Other films include  “Backstreet Atlas,” a documentary about two friends skateboarding from Boston to NYC; Rachel Beth Anderson and Tim Grucza’s “First to Fall,” a documentary about two young Libyan rebels who give up their comfortable lives in Canada to join the fight to overthrow Gaddafi; “Walking Through That Door,” a stop-motion animation music video made for the band Future Islands and “Wonder,” a 365-second animation made up of a sequence of 8,760 pictures hand-drawn by the director over the course of 365 days; “World Fair,” a documentary about memories from the 1939 New York World’s Fair.

For the first time ever, Kickstarter will also be holding the film festival in Los Angeles and London. Details to come at a future date. Kickstarter will make the entire program available to stream in hopes that people will hold their own mini-film festivals in their homes or yards.
