Jared Leto Joins Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel Alongside Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford
Denis Villeneuve’s “Blade Runner” sequel has cast the final member of its large ensemble: Jared Leto, who will be joining Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri, Mackenzie Davis, Barkhad Abdi and former WWE Champion Dave Bautista. Few plot details have been released, and the film remains untitled.

What is known is that Ford will reprise his role as Rick Deckard, a detective in Los Angeles who in the 1982 original was tasked with hunting down four escaped replicants — synthetic humans who’d become dangerously self-aware. Villeneuve’s sequel takes place several decades after Ridley Scott’s 2019-set science-fiction benchmark. The Quebecois filmmaker has become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after in recent years; after earning an Oscar nomination for “Incendies,” he transitioned to English-language fare with “Prisoners.” He has since directed “Enemy,” “Sicario” and the upcoming “Arrival,” which like “Blade Runner” falls under the sci-fi umbrella.

“We are thrilled that Jared has agreed to play a key role in the ‘Blade Runner’ sequel,” said producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson in a statement. “He is a phenomenal actor, and we know he will create a truly memorable, never before seen character.” Warner Bros. will release the film on October 6, 2017.
