Here’s Why Starz Isn’t Holding Its Breath for an ‘Outlander’ Emmy

Starz really loves its historical time-travel series “Outlander.” If only the Emmys did.

“‘Outlander’ is going to be around a while,” Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said at the network’s Television Critics Association executive session on Monday. “We couldn’t be more proud of the show.”

It’s not just talk. Starz renewed “Outlander” for two more seasons already and is open to more depending on the creative direction. “We’re committed at least through Book 4,” said Albrecht. “As soon as I get to read Book 5 and 6 we can start to talk about that.”

Despite fan and critical love for the series, however, “Outlander” was snubbed by the Television Academy in the major categories. (It did receive nominations for its music composition, costuming and production design.) Even “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin was outraged about the lack of apparent love for “Outlander” and took a break from writing his books to sound off about it.

Unfortunately, Albrecht isn’t holding his breath for the Emmys to come around on “Outlander” or the network’s other critically acclaimed series like “Survivor’s Remorse” or “Power.”

“When it comes to getting Emmy nominations, it’s not a level playing field,” he said. I don’t think we’ll ever break through with those people.”
