AMC Sets Date 'The Killing,' Which Will Return With Two-Hour Premiere

AMC’s set a premiere date for the third season of “The Killing,” the crime drama the network axed only to then decide to bring it back after all. The show will return on Sunday, June 2 at 8pm with a two-hour premiere, and stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman joined by new cast members Peter Sarsgaard, Elias Koteas and Amy Seimetz. Showrunner Veena Sud has also returned.

Season three will begin a year after the close of the Rosie Larsen murder that was investigated over the course of the show’s first season and then, to the exasperation of some, its second season as well. Sarah Linden (Enos), who’s no longer working as a detective, is contacted by her ex-partner Stephen Holder (Kinnaman) for help after his search for a runaway girl leads him to find a gruesome string of murders that connects to a previous murder investigation Linden headed up. The network has promised this season will end with the case solved.

“I am grateful to AMC, Fox TV Studios and Netflix for their commitment to the show and their efforts in bringing ‘The Killing’ back to air,” said Sud in the announcement. “I’m also thrilled to be working with our incredible writing team as we continue to explore the lives of ‘Sarah’ and ‘Holder,’ who, like so many real-life detectives, grapple with the consequences to their own lives of a no-holds-barred immersion in the world of a homicide investigation.”

Netflix announced earlier this month that it had secured a deal to stream this new season of “The Killing” three months after the season finale is broadcast on AMC — the site is currently streaming seasons one and two of the show.
