Put your thinking cap on! Future of Storytelling has announced details for their two-day summit and an inaugural prize. The summit will be held on October 1st and 2nd and is a “gathering of technology, media, and communications visionaries from around the world […] designed to put participants in direct contact with the most vital ideas, people, and technologies that are shaping the way we tell stories.” Invitees this year include the likes of Tiffany Shlain (Filmmaker & Founder, “Webby Awards”) and Vincent Morriset (Interactive Director & Filmmaker).

Also announced was a newly developed initiative, the FoST Prize, “a global competition designed to recognize the boundless ingenuity of the storytelling community at large.” The Prize will awarded to “the most exceptional interactive story, which may include but is not limited to, web-based films, data-driven art, mobile apps, narrative games, multimedia installations, augmented reality experiences, and other multi-platform projects.”

Submissions will be evaluated by judges Tham Khai Meng (CCO, Ogilvy & Mather), Damian Kulash (Singer & Guitarist, OK Go), Susan Bonds (CEO, 42 Entertainment), Robert Wong (CCO, Google Creative Lab) and Charles Melcher (Founder, Future of Storytelling), on the basis of the following criteria: interactivity, story-driven content, emotional resonance, and design execution.

Three semi-finalists will be selected and notified by August 21st, 2014. They will then be invited to the summit, where their work will be promoted. It will also be put up on FoST’s official website and across social media channels. The grand-prize winner will be awarded a cash prize of $2500 and given the chance to exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York during the Spring of 2015.
