IFC‘s released its first trailer for “Maron,” the network’s new series starring and based on the life of comedian and podcaster Marc Maron. The 10-episode season will premiere on Friday, May 3 at 10pm, and features Maron as himself, pretty much, a 48-year-old stand-up who resides with his cats (but not his girlfriend — the fictionalized Maron lives alone), records his podcast in his garage and is prone to acerbic oversharing.
Maron has worked on stage, in TV, film and radio for years — most recently he guested on an episode of “Louie,” served as a type of mentor figure in Mike Birbiglia’s “Sleepwalk With Me” and played a significant role in the documentary “The Bitter Buddha.” Maron’s podcast, “WTF With Marc Maron,” is a combination of confessional and deeply personal one-on-one interviews with various guests that’s one of the best of its kind on the web — a recent episode featuring Mel Brooks was particularly excellent.
It’ll be interesting to see how Maron’s very distinctive comedic voice translates to a scripted TV series. The show costars Judd Hirsch (“Ordinary People”) as Maron’s father, Nora Zehetner (“Brick”) as his girlfriend, Andy Kindler (“Everybody Loves Raymond”) as his loyal friend and Josh Brener (“The Internship”) as his assistant.
