6 Must-Watch TV Shows and Movies on HBO NOW October 2015, from 'Amy Schumer' 'Lost Translation'
After winning a record 43 Primetime Emmy Awards last month, HBO has released their latest slate of movies and television shows available for streaming on HBO NOW. Headlining October’s lineup are Amy Schumer’s HBO debut special “Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo,” the Season 2 premiere of the original series “The Leftovers,” Halloween hits like “The Pyramid” and “Dawn of the Dead,” as well as contemporary classics like “Lost in Translation” and “Little Miss Sunshine.” But with every addition announcement comes a sadder attachment detailing which films and movies you must bid adieu to before they enter streaming purgatory at the end of the month.

New Original Programming:

“The Leftovers, Season 2 Premiere” (10/2)
“El negocio, Season 2 Finale” (10/2)
Magnífica 70, Season 1 Premiere (10/9)

Indiewire Pick: “Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo” (2015)

Trying to capitalize on the biggest imaginable showbiz summer, HBO is banking on comedic juggernaut Amy Schumer with “Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo.” After her headlining role in ‘Trainwreck’, her Emmy win, and a multimillion dollar book deal, Schumer is set to release her HBO stand-up debut. Filmed at the iconic New York theater, the one-hour comedy special is directed by Chris Rock — no stranger to mega HBO specials himself. Schumer will undoubtedly spare no details, drawing out the funny from the most intimate and occasionally filthy aspects of life.

“Doll & Em, Season 2 Finale” (10/18)
“How to Dance in Ohio” (10/26)
Saturday Night Movies:
“American Sniper” (10/3)
“Focus” (10/10)

“The Pyramid” (10/31)

“La juala de oro” (10/9)
“The Poet of Havana” (10/23)
Available October 1:
“28 Days”
“Blazing Saddles”
“Blood Diamond”

Indiewire Pick: “Brick” (2005)

In a completely convincing non-French accent, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is at his best in “Brick” as a high school loner who gets embroiled in a twisty cascade of drugs and violence. Taking cues from Dashiell Hammett, “Brick” is a hard-boiled detective tale given a fresh spin from its displacement in the present-day suburbs of California. The result is a unique cult concoction that manages to deftly balance its genre-bending premise with grit and gravitas. As writer-director Rian Johnson gears up for blockbuster death or glory with “Star Wars Episode VII,” check out his 2005 micro-budget debut which launched both him — and JGL — to stardom.
“Burn after Reading”
“House on Haunted Hill”
“License to Drive”
“Little Miss Sunshine”

Indiewire Pick: “Lost in Translation” (2003)

After her promising directorial debut with “The Virgin Suicides,” Sofia Coppola truly propelled herself out of her father’s shadow with her sophomore feature, “Lost in Translation.” Set to a perfectly bittersweet soundtrack, the indie film depicts the brief encounter between two lost souls under the bright lights of Tokyo. Not only did it launch Scarlett Johansson’s career, but “Lost in Translation” also provided another unneeded, but very welcome reminder that Bill Murray is, in fact, the man — and an extremely talented actor to boot. Plus, Giovanni Ribisi’s appearance as perhaps a not-so-subtle version of Coppola’s ex-boyfriend, Spike Jonze, means that “Lost in Translation” might make quite the double feature with “Her,” for those who want to ruminate on loneliness.
“Magnolia”
“Return to House on Haunted Hill”
“Revenge of the Nerds”
“Rumor Has It”
“The Rock”
“Trick ‘R Treat”
Notable New Family Films:
“Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London”
“Alvin and the Chipmunks”
“Bee Movie”
“Ella Enchanted”
“Happy Feet”
“The Kid,”
“Like Mike”
“Like Mike 2: Streetball”
“Mrs. Doubtfire”
“Rugrats in Paris: The Movie”
“Shrek”
Last Chance to Catch:
“Gravity” (10/10)
“Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” (10/24)
Ending October 31:
“A History of Violence”
“A Million Ways to Die in the West”
“Agent Cody Banks”
“Dawn of the Dead”
“Good Night, and Good Luck”
“Gothika”
“Escape from L.A.”
“Jarhead”
“Just Friends”
“Meet the Parents”
