‘Southside With You’ Trailer: Watch Barack and Michelle Obama Fall In Love On Their First Date
While it may seem hard to believe after eight years in office, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were once just young, passionate citizens who desperately wanted to make a difference in their community. They didn’t know that they soon would be two of the most powerful people in the country. The new film “Southside With You” recounts the eventful summer day in 1989 when Barack and Michelle went on a daylong first date that took them through the city of Chicago, from the Art Institute to a screening of Spike Lee’s “Do The Right Thing” to an ice cream parlor where their first kiss took place. Written and directed by Richard Tanne in his debut feature, “Southside With You” premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival to an enthusiastic critical response. The film stars Parker Sawyers (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit”) as Barack Obama and Tika Sumpter (“Get On Up”) as Michelle Robinson. It also features music by Stephen James Taylor, who has scored many films by legendary director Charles Burnett, like “To Sleep With Anger” and “The Glass Shield.”
“Southside With You” is distributed by Miramax and Roadside Attractions. It will be released in theaters on August 26th.
