FX has become one of the most reliable cable networks for the comedy genre over the past several years thanks to critical hits such as “Louie” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” as well as breakout favorites like “Wilfred” and “You’re the Worst.” Denis Leary looks to be in good hands, then, when he joins FX’s growing comedy slate with the new half-hour series “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll.”

In his return to FX after seven seasons of “Rescue Me,” Leary plays Johnny Rock, lead singer of a legendary early ’90s New York-based band called The Heathens. Known for living up to their name, the band partied so long and so hard that even Keith Richards thought they needed to slow things down. Twenty-five years after the band’s twisted breakup, the down-and-out Johnny comes across a massively talented young singer (Elizabeth Gillies), and a plan to recapture the band’s glory days begins.

In three new teasers, cast members Leary, Gillies and John Corbett show off their wisecracking characters and rattle off some influences for Leary’s lead singer, including The Ramones, The Clash and a whole lot of cocaine.

“Sex&Drug&Rock&Roll” premieres Thursday, July 16 at 10pm on FX.
