Bad Moms,” starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn, follows three overworked and under-appreciated mothers who are pushed beyond their limits and ditch their conventional responsibilities for a jolt of long overdue freedom and fun. The raunchy comedy is out in theaters on July 29, here is what the critics are saying.

IndieWire’s Kate Erbland gave the film a B-, noting that it “boasts some good jokes but Hahn’s revelatory performance is the big draw.” It’s not the most iconic film of the year but Kate writes, “Like so many other films hitting the big screen this year, from ‘Neighbors 2’ to ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates,’ ‘Bad Moms’ isn’t afraid to let its leading ladies prove that women can behave just as badly as men, and be funny as hell while doing it… Hahn steals every single scene she’s in, a hilarious ball of pure comedic id.”

Owen Gleiberman of Variety writes, “‘Bad Moms’ is often a bit of a cartoon, yet it’s funny enough to be resonant.” He adds, “Kathryn Hahn, with her regal sneer, delivers her lines with the crack of a whip; she rules ‘Bad Moms’ like a born movie-comedy star. But the other two actresses are aces as well: Bell, so pert and polite you’re just waiting to see the demons she’s carrying around inside, and Kunis, whose accomplished performance turns Amy into the movie’s frantic, devoted, beleaguered, proud, confused, nurturing soul.”

“Funny enough, mostly thanks to Kathryn Hahn,” is what Jon Frosch of The Hollywood Reporter writes. He agrees with the previous critics and states that, “Hahn goes a long way toward making us want to forgive the film’s sins; whenever she’s onscreen, ‘Bad Moms’ is an oasis of dumb fun in this desert of a summer movie season.” While the comedy doesn’t break the mold, Frosch agrees that it’s a good time.

Entertainment Weekly gave the movie an A- grade. Chris Nashawaty wrote: “‘Bad Moms’ certainly doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, but it’s nice to see the tires on that wheel get a little dirtier. Hahn, who unleashes outrageous arias of four-letter poetry every time she opens her mouth, is a revelation. If everyone else wasn’t so good, I’d say she steals the movie in the same way that Melissa McCarthy walked away with ‘Bridesmaids’ five years ago.”

Pete Hammond of Deadline calls the feature a “perfect movie for moms to ditch the kids and have some raunchy fun.” He states in his review that the film has a surprising amount of heart and tender moments that “underline the fact this is really a movie about good moms who are teetering on the edge.” Like the previous critics he agree that Hahn “steals the show with a full-bodied and absolutely hilarious comic performance eclipsing all of the film work she has done to date.” He also add that Bell, Kunis and Applegate are all amazing as well.
