Sofia Coppola’s New Film ‘The Beguiled’: See Production Images From The Set of Her Western
Director Sofia Coppola‘s last project was the Netflix holiday special “A Very Murray Christmas,” a musical comedy film which follows Bill Murray making the most of a cancelled live Christmas special, but she hasn’t made a feature-length film since “The Bling Ring” in 2013. Her next film is a remake of the western “The Beguiled,” based on Clint Eastwood’s 1971 film by the same name, which itself was based on Thomas P. Cullinan’s 1966 novel “A Painted Devil.” A series of Instagram posts confirm that principal production on “The Beguiled” has begun. Check them out below.

Set during the Civil War, the original film followed a Union soldier imprisoned in a Confederate girls’ boarding school who disrupts the environment and slowly turns the women against each other. The remake stars Elle Fanning (“The Neon Demon”), Nicole Kidman (“The Hours”), Kirsten Dunst (“Melancholia”), Colin Farrell (“In Bruges”) and Angourie Rice (“The Nice Guys”).
Coppola has previously directed five feature films: “The Virgin Suicides,” “Lost in Translation,” “Marie Antoinette,” “Somewhere” and “The Bling Ring.” Coppola won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for “Lost in Translation,” which was nominated for three other Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for Bill Murray.
Focus Features will release “The Beguiled” domestically in select cities on June 23, 2017 in the U.S., with an expansion on June 30, 2017; and Universal Pictures International (UPI) will distribute the film globally, beginning in the summer of 2017.
