Sony Pictures Worldwide Goes for Gold and Picks Up ‘The Bronze’ starring Cecily Strong and Melissa Rauch
Currently in production in Ohio, “The Bronze” — directed by Oscar nominee Bryan Buckley and written by star Melissa Rauch and her husband Winston — has been acquired by Sony Pictures Worldwide Entertainment. Rauch rose to fame in the role of Bernadette on television’s “The Big Bang Theory,” as well as appearances on “True Blood” and “The Office.”

Here, she stars as a one-time gymnast — winner of the eponymous bronze medal — who is slipping from fame. As the broken, foul-mouthed former star clings to her status as a local celebrity, a new, younger athlete rises as her competition.
“We fell instantly for the vulgar yet lovable Hope Greggory (Rauch),” said Joe Matukewicz of SPWA. The project has been executive produced by director Buckley and writers Melissa and Winston Rauch, as well as Jay and Mark Duplass of Duplass Brothers Productions. Stephanie Langhoff, whose recent Sundance hit “The Skeleton Twins” opens September 19, is on as producer.
Bryan Buckley, while new to feature directing, already has an Academy Award nomination to his name and has been dubbed the “King of the Super Bowl” for his work in commercial directing. The Oscar nod came in the Live Action Short category, which honored his film “Asad” about life in war-torn Samalia, in 2012. Alongside lead Rauch, the film stars “Saturday Night Live’s” Cecily Strong, Thomas Middleditch, Sebastian Stan, Gary Cole and Haley Lu Richardson.
