LAST WEEK: ‘Ballers’ Review: Is The Rock Baller When He’s Vulnerable?

This week, “Ballers” brought with it some incredibly disappointing news for Charles (Omar Miller) and a tough confrontation between Ricky (John David Washington) and his father. But here’s the most important thing to explore…

If you want one single image that defines how much ballerdom The Rock is capable of, consider this: The Rock makes holding a bellini look baller.

This is not an easy task. A delicate champagne and peach juice cocktail, served in a slender glass, is not the kind of beverage you associate with someone like the man at the center of a show called “Ballers.” It is a drink that could undermine even a slightly insecure man.

As proof, take Joe (Rob Corddry) standing next to Spencer on Mr. Anderson’s boat, also holding a bellini. Joe always looks a little… less than impressive, when compared to Spencer. But he seemed especially weak in this case:

Meanwhile, we have The Rock, taking one casual sip of the proffered bellini then holding it for the rest of the scene. It does not distract him, it does not detract from his baller nature. He balls on unencumbered.

Technically, The Rock did take some hits this week. Not only did he get chewed out by Mr. Anderson for going after Andre (“minnows don’t go after sharks for a reason” is a great line, by the way, but I’m sorry have you seen how broad The Rock’s shoulders are?) but Andre himself smacked him down pretty hard at the end, laying out some pretty clear threats.

But really, it’s all about that bellini, and how baller The Rock looked while holding it. They shouldn’t even call it a bellini, when The Rock holds one. In the hands of The Rock, it’s a Ballini.
