Digital Distributor Gets Its First-Ever Sports Emmy Nod With Hulu Docuseries ‘Behind The Mask’

Hulu officially entered the awards arena today as its 10-episode docuseries “Behind the Mask” received a Sports Emmy nomination in the category of “Outstanding New Approaches ­Sports Programming.”

The Sports Emmy Awards are produced by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences — the same organization behind the Daytime and Primetime Emmy awards shows.

Created by Josh Greenbaum, whose film “The Short Game,” won the audience awards at last year’s SXSW, “Behind the Mask,” explores what it is like to be a mascot for a sports team at both the amateur and professional levels.

Season 2 is currently in pre-production. The winners of the Sports Emmy Awards will be announced May 6.
