Google has partnered with GoPro to develop a 360-degree virtual reality camera which will be compatible with Google’s recently announced Jump VR platform.

The new circular rig camera, which uses 16 GoPro Hero5 cameras to capture and record spherical video, will be called “360-Degree Camera Array” and, according to The New York Times, “looks like a chandelier rigged with 16 GoPro video recorders.”

The new camera will work with Google’s recently announced Jump, a new VR technology platform, to process the 3D footage. The new camera will allow people to create virtual reality content for Oculus Rift, Google Cardboard and services like YouTube 360.

At first, the new camera will only be available to a few select YouTubers, but eventually it will be made available to anyone who wants to make VR content (and can afford the price tag). No price point has been announced yet, but given that GoPros retail for around $400 each, multiply that number by 16 and you’re looking into the thousands.

Meanwhile, yesterday, GoPro announced it was officially getting into the drone business with their new quadcopter, which the company plans to launch in early 2016. GoPro CEO Nick Woodman announced the news at the Code Conference yesterday saying, “The quad is in some ways the ultimate GoPro accessory,” according to The Verge.
