Cinedigm is on a roll lately, with recent acquisitions including “Antboy,” “Remote Area Medical,” and “Night Moves.” And now, to add another genre to this list consisting of family films, documentaries, and drama-thrillers, the company just nabbed U.S. distribution rights to Nacho Vigalondo‘s “Open Windows,” a 21st century “Rear Window” styled thriller-chiller. The film had its world premiere earlier this month at SXSW.

The plot revolves around Nick (Elijah Wood), who, thanks to an online contest, wins a dinner with Jill Goddard (Sasha Grey) tonight, an actress he admires. Then he gets drawn into a strange kidnapping scenario in which, instead of meeting the actress, he’s forced to give her commands from his computer screen at the behest of an unseen menace. The entire story takes place within the confines of the screen.

“Nacho is one of the most innovative and visionary filmmakers working today. And his talents are once again on full display in this high-tech, action packed suspense film,” said Vincent Scordino, Senior Vice President of Theatrical Releasing for Cinedigm in a statement.  “Wonderfully unique and wildly entertaining, we’re thrilled to bring ‘Open Windows’ to audiences wherever they consume entertainment.”

Cinedigm plans a theatrical release in late summer or early fall 2014.
