Jeff Golub: Train Keeps A Rolling
Tweetable Logline: A documentary about the life and legacy of rock, blues and jazz guitarist Jeff Golub.
Elevator Pitch: During his illustrious career, Jeff Golub was Rod Stewart’s front man, he played with Billy Squier and other legends and he recorded 11 solo albums, plus three more as the leader of Avenue Blue. Inspired by Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and BB King, among others, Jeff began playing guitar when he was 12. Playing rock, blues, and jazz guitar, Jeff became a world renowned performer, playing in stadiums, concert halls, and clubs around the world. On January 1, 2015, Jeff passed away from a rare brain disorder, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). This documentary tells the story of his last years.
Production Team:
Producer/Director/
Producer/Editor: Philip Shane (“Being Elmo,” “Dancing In Jaffa”)
About the film: I met Jeff Golub in 2012 and was immediately struck by his story. At age 56, Jeff suddenly lost his sight. As his fans can attest, however, he still played as well as anyone in the business.
Unfortunately, blindness was only the beginning. Jeff’s health continued to decline, until his death on January 1, 2015 from PSP.
Although this story began due to Jeff’s status as a world-class musician, it continued because he was also a normal man–a husband, a father and a friend. The struggles that he and his family endured are something that many, if not all, families understand.
Current status: Fundraising for post-production. Currently have an assembly cut.
