Spike Lee’s MasterClass Will Teach You About Screenwriting, Directing, and Not Working a Job You Hate — Watch

“The majority of people on this earth go their grave having worked a job they hated their whole life,” Spike Lee says in the video introduction to his MasterClass. “So if you’re able to make a living doing what you love, you’ve won.” That’s presumably one of the many topics Lee, who also serves as artistic director and professor of NYU’s Graduate Film Program, will cover in his class. “There are no absolute truths in filmmaking and no one way to be a filmmaker,” Lee says in a statement. “I’ve learned in 30 years things that I can give back. I’m teaching this MasterClass because very few people get to sit in my classes at NYU, so this is an opportunity for me to share what I’ve learned with as many students as possible, no matter where they are in their film career.”

His class focuses on teaching students “how to tell stories that need to be told.”His approach focuses on screenwriting, working with actors, budgeting, choosing music, and cinematography.
