In the latest video diary entry from “Krisha” writer-director Trey Edward Shults, the focus shifts from the festival at-large to Shults and his film, which had its first screening at Cannes Critics’ Week on Wednesday May 20. Schults has got to be flying high given the incredible reception it received.

It’s also got a personal backstory. Written and directed by Shults, “Krisha” features Shults’ own family members in a story that draws inspiration from real life experiences. The drama, which had little buzz around it going into its premiere at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year, garnered widespread critical praise and ultimately nabbed the festival’s top jury prize and the audience award.

After “Krisha” got accepted into Cannes, A24 acquired the distribution rights to the film and also signed on to produce and distribute Shults’ second film, “It Comes at Night.”
