Claire Randall Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) may have escaped the
clutches of the redcoats for the safety of her Scottish clansmen, but she’s got
another difficult challenge ahead of her: married life.
A Starz Original Series, “Outlander” debuted in
fall 2014 to good reviews, and is based on the novel of the same name by Diana
Gabaldon. The series follows Claire as she is magically transplanted from 1945 Scotland
to 1743, where she must deal with romantic and political entanglements while
trying to find her way back to her native century.
In this Entertainment Weekly featurette, actress Caitriona Balfe is
joined by her on-screen husband Sam Heughan, executive producer Ronald D. Moore and author Diana Gabaldon to discuss her character’s marriage to Jamie Fraser
(Heughan) and the effect their relationship will have on the show. “What
was once just Claire’s story is really the two of them — that relationship is
the foundation of everything that’s ‘Outlander,'” says Moore.
Season 1 of “Outlander” will return to Starz for
eight more episodes on Saturday, April 4, at 9pm. Check out the featurette at EW.com.
