Watch: Here’s the Trailer for James Gandolfini’s Final Film ‘The Drop,’ Also Starring Tom Hardy

The new film, from Michael R. Roskam, carries the weight of being James Gandolfini‘s final film, and it looks scintillating. Co-starring fellow heavyweights such as the always impressive Tom Hardy, and Noomi Rapace, the crime-drama, based on a book by Dennis Lehane (of “Mystic River” and “Gone Baby Gone” fame) tells the story of a bar where dirty money is flushed under the watchful eye of a bartender who may know more than he lets on when they bar is robbed.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“The Drop” follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) through a covert scheme of funneling cash to local gangsters – “money drops” – in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (James Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood’s past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living – no matter the cost.

Roskam, who’s film “Bullhead” was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, looks to have created a shady and violent film that deals with the idea of family and loyalty, trademarks of the Lehane sub-genre of crime thrillers. Boasting a dark and brooding atmosphere, Gandolfini seems to be right at home, in what will be the last time he appears in a new film. 

Fox Searchlight is set to release “The Drop” on September 19th. Watch the trailer below.
