Berry Meyerowitz, President & CEO of Phase 4 Films, announced today that the company has picked up all North American rights to director Gil Cates Jr.’s dark comedy LUCKY starring Colin Hanks, Ari Graynor, Jeffrey Tambor, and Academy Award© nominee Ann-Margret. The film, with a screenplay by Kent Sublette, was produced by Cates Jr. and Caitlin Murney through their Ten/Four Pictures banner. The film will make its world premiere at the Dallas International Film Festival this week. Phase 4 will release the film theatrically and on its new Video-on-Demand (VOD) platform this summer.

“LUCKY is thrilling, disturbing, and hilarious all at the same time,” said Meyerowitz. “It is one of the most original films I have seen in a while, and we are excited to bring the picture to audiences across the U.S. and Canada.”

LUCKY follows Ben Keller (Hanks) who wins the Iowa State Lottery, and gains the newfound confidence to pursue his life-long crush, Lucy St. Martin (Graynor). With $36 million at his disposal, Ben pursues Lucy, keeping quiet the fact that he is also a fledgling serial killer. As their relationship spirals out of control and the body count rises, Lucy and Ben do all they can to survive love, marriage, and each other, as their darkly comic nightmare unfolds.

“We are thrilled to be working with Phase 4 on the release of LUCKY. This is a film that is near and dear to us and we are delighted to have found a likeminded partner in Phase 4,” said Cates Jr.

The deal was negotiated by Larry Greenberg, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions for Phase 4 with Linda Lichter at Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler & Feldman on behalf of the filmmakers.
