It’s “The O.C.,” but all grown up, and for the Suffolk County set — yet somehow it’s also “complex, smart, and intriguing.” Premiering October 12, Showtime brings us “The Affair.” Like “Girls,” the series is sure to resonate with New Yorkers of a certain age and background, but “The Affair” looks set for an older audience.
Dominic West is Noah Solloway, a Brooklynite writer and schoolteacher who is happily married to Helen (Maura Tierney). That is, until he strikes up an affair with diner waitress Alison Lockhart (Ruth Wilson) while vacationing in Montauk.
Things get complicated as sex, crime, and outdoor Hamptons-style showering ensue. There will be plenty of soapy Showtime goodness, but in this behind the scenes feature the cast lets watchers know that the series is anything but empty calories. Says actor Joshua Jackson: “‘The Affair’ expects the audience to have an opinion […] It’s a lean forward show, not a sit back show.”
