Michael Moore Announced Speaker 39th Toronto International Film Festival, Special Screening and More

With the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) happening in early September, a few of the speakers and a special screening have been announced as part of this year’s lineup .

The speakers were announced for three TIFF conferences: Industry, Doc and Asian Film Summit. Technology pioneer Donald Trumbull will speak at the Industry Conference, a session dedicated to discussion about financing, production, marketing and distribution. Other speakers for this conference include

Stuart Ford (Founder & CEO, IM Global), Claudia Bluemhuber (Managing Partner, Silver Reel), Fabien Riggall (Founder, Secret Cinema) and Roberto Olla (Executive Director, Eurimages).

Oscar-winning documentary director Michael Moore will be speaking at the Doc Conference, an in-depth session that looks at all aspects of documentary filmmaking. Thom Powers, TIFF Doc’s programmer, will moderate the conversation. In addition to this, TIFF has announced a special screening in honor of the 25th anniversary of Moore’s “Roger and Me.” “Roger and Me” takes a look at the reasons behind General Motor’s decision to abandon the town of Flint Michigan.

“In 1989 ‘Roger & Me’ took Toronto by storm: the irreverent, persistent and radical doc seized the attention of media, industry and audiences alike. The premiere at once brought attention to the situation in Flint, Michigan and signaled the emergence of an original and irrepressible voice in documentary filmmaking,” Piers Handling, Director and CEO, TIFF said.

Peter Loehr, CEO of Legendary East will be hosting the annual Asian Film summit, a conference dedicated to building bridges between Asian cinema and western cinema.

TIFF will occur from September 4-14th. Look for more speaker and lineup announcements next month.
