Movie Lovers We Love: An Awesome Blog that Goes Back to the Spot where Famous Scenes were Shot
While Christopher Moloney was walking around Central Park, headed to his job at CNN near Columbus Circle, he looked down the street and realized that he worked around the corner from one of the most iconic scenes in one of his favorite films, “Ghostbusters,” in which the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man walks down a New York street, terrorizing citizens below.

Margins aside, it matches up fairly well. Cute, but nothing spectacular. Moloney posted the photo to Facebook and people responded well.
He was looking for something to do on his way to work every day, and after taking a few more photos, he started a blog, PhilmFotos.tumblr.com.
Scenes from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “Goodfellas” and “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps” are some of the films representing New York locations. Moloney has brought his hobby all over the world, though. In his hometown of Toronto, he found the setting for scenes in “Good Will Hunting.” In Thailand, “Hangover 2”; Cambodia, “Tomb Raider”; Vietnam, “The Quiet American.”
In fact, when he was in Vietnam, he printed out the images for both versions of “The Quiet American,” which both shot at the Continental Hotel, at the hotel’s front desk.
Now that the site has got some traction, people are responding well. Moloney explained to Indiewire, “People are very positive. But every morning, I wake up to someone saying ‘Get your fat finger out of the way!'”
As for process, Moloney will both recognize New York in films, or be walking down the street and have an epiphany that some place he is passing was in a film he had seen.
Moloney is fairly modest about his photography skills. “I know absolutely nothing about photography at all. I took the first 50 pictures on my Blackberry. I take them with a Canon point-and-shoot now. It fits in my pocket, pull out when I get to where a scene is.”
As for why the photos are all black and white? “My printer at home is a black and white printer. I’ve been lucky enough to get covered by different magazines. They often mention all of these people who are good artists or photographers and saying that I am paying homage to artists and photographers who have come before me by using the black-and-white photos. But really, I just don’t have a color printer.”

Favorite NYC spot not in a film (to your knowledge): I really have no idea. Whenever I think I’ve found one of NYC’s few unfilmed locations, I find out something shot there. Even my own block makes an appearance in “Mighty Aphrodite.”
