Here Are Last Week's Top 10 Stories: 'Game of Thrones' Finale Recap, Rian Johnson 'Star Wars' News and More

In addition to our ongoing coverage of the upcoming Emmy nominations, some new items have topped our most read list from this past week. From a recap of the season four finale of “Game of Thrones,” to a look at some musicals that just demand to be made into films, these stories were the most viewed last week at Indiewire:

In the latter stages of its now-concluded fourth season, any number of fans and critics and critic/fans have been advancing the opinion that this has been the best season of “Game of Thrones.” Meanwhile, a smaller, more pessimistic contingent of book readers are worrying that the next couple of seasons are doomed, due to both the source material and the fact that Season 4 will, by default, come to be seen as something of a high point.

2. 2014 Emmy Predictions
Here’s Indiewire’s predictions for the 66th Primetime Emmy Award nominations, which will be announced on July 10th, 2014 before a ceremony on August 25, 2014 announcing the winners.

3. The Top 10 TV Shows of 2014 (So Far)
We’re halfway through 2014, which feels like the perfect time to look back at the TV which has come before. If only because by December, some of these shows might have been forgotten — which would be a tragedy. So we each picked five shows that really stood out over the first six months of 2014 (working not to overlap with each other).  These choices are, of course, subjective, but still represent some of the best television we saw this year.

4. Early Contender for Worst Poster of 2014: Woody Allen’s ‘Magic in the Moonlight’
The poster for Woody Allen’s upcoming romantic comedy “Magic in the Moonlight,” starring Emma Stone and Colin Firth, made its debut on Moviefone and boy, was it a dud.

5. The Best Indie Movies of 2014 So Far, According to Criticwire: ‘Finding Vivian Maier’ and Jodorowsky’s ‘The Dance of Reality’ Join the List
Earlier in the week, we published the results of our second annual Mid-Year Critics Poll. With over 120 ballots cast, there were plenty of fresh reviews posted on all the films that critics singled out as the year’s ballot. That resultant influx of grades caused a bit of a shakeup in the standings on the running total we have listed below.

6. Saying Goodbye to FX’s ‘Fargo’: Does Tonight’s Season Finale Come Too Soon?
Those who are passionate about television, by and large, have come to embrace the concept of a limited-episode season. It means, after all, that shows aren’t forced to pad out storylines and time reveals for specific times of the year (specifically November and May, otherwise known as “sweeps”).

7. Now You Can Watch the Unaired Emma Roberts Pilot ‘Delirium’ on Hulu
Fox Entertainment and WIGS, a web-channel designed to appeal to female viewers, have teamed up to air “Delirium,” a pilot that was never picked up, on Hulu.

8. Here’s Why Rian Johnson Is The Right Person to Direct ‘Star Wars’ 8 and 9
When an indie director goes Hollywood, our first reaction is often along the lines of “Oy.” But when Deadline broke the news earlier today that Rian Johnson would be writing and directing the next two “Star Wars” movies, we thought: “This is nothing less than awesome.” Here’s why.

9. 9 Musicals That Need Movies and Which Directors Should Take Them On
The movie musical certainly had a heyday in the 1930s and 40s, but thanks to films like 2001’s “Moulin Rouge!” and 2002’s “Chicago,” musicals have made a comeback throughout the aughts and the teens during this millennium. With Clint Eastwood’s adaptation of the popular stage musical “Jersey Boys” opening this weekend, we got to thinking about what musical theater productions are worthy of a film adaptation and which directors would be perfect to bring them to the silver screen.

10. Awkward Alert! Here Are 11 Indies NOT to Watch With Your Dad on Father’s Day
Last month, we gave you a list of movies not to watch with your mother on Mother’s Day. With Father’s Day, we thought we’d provide the same service for you and your dear old dads. Here’s our list of movies that you should definitely NOT watch with dad, either because it would be really awkward, really uncomfortable, or really sad. Trust us on this one.
