History's Period Hit 'Vikings' is Renewed Third Season

The History channel has just ordered a 10-episode third season of its hit series “Vikings.” There are six episodes remaining in its current second season, which will come to a close Thursday, May 1st.

“Vikings” is created and written by Michael Hirst (writer of the Academy-Award winning film “Elizabeth” and creator of the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated series “The Tudors”) and has boosted History to first place in cable ratings for its time slot. It is the network’s first scripted drama.

The series stars Travis Fimmel as Ragnar Lothbrok, a restless young warrior and family man who longs to sail west and explore and conquer new kingdoms.

Dirk Hoogstra, EVP and General Manager, announced, “’Vikings’ has taken viewers by storm” and “has cemented History firmly in the scripted series genre, just as we are the leaders in reality television.”
